Some big names in country music came out last weekend to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at the 21st Annual “Country Cares” event. Carrie Underwood, Jewel, Little Big Town, Danny Gokey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Azar, Darryl Worley and Joe Nichols were all on hand for the event, founded by Alabama lead singer Randy Owen.
Randy said, “There’s nothing like the St. Jude “Country Cares” program. This is the most important thing I’ve done in my life besides take care of my wife and children.”
Carrie toured the St. Jude’s facility in Memphis and said, “When you walk in the door of St. Jude, it is happy. There are pictures on the wall – kid-created pictures – and it’s not like a hospital. It is not a cold environment.”
Jewel said, “I’m a fan of this hospital and what they are able to do for children. Meeting the kids is always the most heartwarming. The experience here is overwhelming.”
Since the “Country Cares” program began, they’ve raised over $365 million for St. Jude.
