There’s no question, Ben Affleck and J Lo were completely utterly head-over-heels in love with each other (back in the day) but the storm of J Lo was all too much for Ben, and he still isn’t over it.
They came from such different backgrounds; Ben from a want-for-nothing academia upbringing in Massachusetts, and Jennifer from the South Bronx struggling to pay for her own dance classes, and determined to have no limitations on her success.
In a new interview, Ben says he shouldn’t have ever started dating her in the first place. He says, “I was no longer in control of my life. I thought I wanted certain things, but I didn’t. I got lost. I felt suffocated, miserable and gross. I should never have gone down that route or got sucked in to all the publicity.”
Yes the publicity was gross, especially when Ben caressed her butt in the “Jenny from the Block” video. Still, he adored her enough to spend 1.2 million dollars on the six carat pink diamond engagement ring!
Being so out shined by Jennifer’s popularity and drive, Ben believes their romance ruined his career, “I was typecast as myself. Too many people weren’t getting past what they read about me. That was damaging. I can tell from experience it’s bad for you, and bad for your career. So I took a break, went away for a while and let things calm down.”
Ben almost immediately began dating the antithesis of J. Lo… the meek, matronly, and undemanding Jennifer Garner. He’s been lying low; being a daddy to his two adorable kids and says, “Work has taken a back seat. My job is not as important as it was. Saying that having a family changed my life is a cliché. But it’s true – it re-arranged my life and made me see clearly.”

All’s well that ends well, right? Ben and Jen G are a great fit for each other. Ben will never have to weather such an emasculating storm again.
However… we do believe Ben will never see or know the PASSION he did with Jenny from the block. Opposites do attract, even if they don’t last. XO

Interesting take on this one writer! Most are siding with Ben being with Garner but I always believed Ben was madly in Love with Jlo…just not MAN enough to handle a sexy powerful woman that overshadowed him!
He needs to be the MAN so garner is a great pick for him but his film career still sucks so go ahead and blame Jlo…Punk!

WoW!!!! Sparks flying in here over this I see….never know what goes on behind closed doors….I think Ben and Jen were just too much alike…neither wanted to give up any of the spot light to the other and Ben was still drinking at that point! I didn’t think Ben had a lot of support from friends and family where Jen was concerned….they both speak Spanish, both are Leo and both have been in showbiz from a very young age….but who knows all the how and why….but I still can’t get over the Puffy thing….they were like fire and water!
