Buy A Lotus And Help Haiti Too!

naomilotusWant to buy a new sports car and give to a good cause?

Supermodel Naomi Campbell poses with the Lotus Evora that she designed to be auctioned off – with proceeds benefiting the victims of Haiti.

Lotus design director Donato Coco worked with Campbell to create the eight unique “Naomi for Haiti” Evoras. These special edition models will go up for auction at the Fashion for Relief charity auction at the London Fashion Weekly venue on February 18. The winning bidders and the final bid will be announced at the show, and all proceeds will go to the charity.

For the “Naomi for Haiti” Evoras, the supermodel chose to paint the car in white, with the roof painted in green and mirrors and trim pieces finished in yellow. Inside, white leather is applied to virtually every surface, and is accented with yellow piping and a striking purple door pull.

“I am deeply saddened by the recent tragedy in Haiti,” said Campbell. “So many have been killed and severely affected by the earthquake — women and children in particular are most vulnerable in disasters. Fashion is universal, personal, and touches everyone. I am delighted that Lotus cars is supporting my Fashion for Relief charity and I am sure with such generous help we will raise crucial funds to help save the lives of women and children.”

49 Million Americans Are Living On The Brink Of Hunger

02This is pretty mind-blowing. Did you know 1 in every 8 Americans are starving! One of the richest countries in the world and to our surprise, there is an alarming rate of people who need our help.

Hunger in America 2010 is the largest study of domestic hunger, providing comprehensive and statistically-valid data on our emergency food distribution system and the people Feeding America serves. Hunger in America 2010 is extremely detailed, drawing on data from more than 61,000 interviews with clients and surveys of 37,000 feeding agencies.
The report shows that hunger is increasing at an alarming rate in the United States, and our network is expanding its reach in response:
Feeding America is annually providing food to 37 million Americans, including 14 million children. This is an increase of 46 percent over 2006, when we were feeding 25 million Americans, including 9 million children, each year.
That means one in eight Americans now rely on Feeding America for food and groceries.
Feeding America’s nationwide network of food banks is feeding 1 million more Americans each week than we did in 2006.
Thirty-six percent of the households we serve have at least one person working.
More than one-third of client households report having to choose between food and other basic necessities, such as rent, utilities and medical care.
The number of children the Feeding America network serves has increased by 50 percent since 2006.

425.penn.sean.lc.012210

Sean Penn has spent the last few weeks in Haiti and now it has just been reported the actor is personally responsible for saving two lives Thursday during a rescue mission in Haiti — a woman and an orphan child badly injured in the rubble of a collapsed building

TMZ reports: Penn — who runs the Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization — drove an hour- and-a-half with his daughter Dylan to rescue a woman and child who were trapped in rubble outside Port-au-Prince, possibly from an aftershock. An eyewitness tells TMZ Penn helped extricate the woman, who suffered leg injuries, and the child, who suffered head injuries. Penn drove them in his truck to the University of Miami hospital camp in Port-au-Prince.

The Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization, which was created by actor/director Sean Penn and philanthropist and entrepreneur Diana Jenkins in the days immediately following the Haiti earthquake, has launched a “Beat the Rain” campaign aimed at more quickly relocating tens of thousands of Haitians before the heavy rain season begins.

The Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization is drawing on an enormous network of emergency response contacts in government and non-government organizations, as well as support from friends internationally, to deliver immediate results to the people of Haiti. They are working closely with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne, officials in the Dominican Republic, as well as many local mayors, religious and community leaders, and hospital officials to determine the most immediate needs and service those needs as quickly and effectively as possible.

Read all that they have accomplished in a 3 week period here.
