Ellen Degeneres Will Not Be Returning To American Idol

Fox Broadcasting Co. announced late Thursday that Ellen DeGeneres will leave her role as a judge on “American Idol,” in what is likely to be the first of several changes aimed at rejuvenating the aging reality-TV series.

The comedian and television host said in a statement that the show “didn’t feel like the right fit for me.” Ms. DeGeneres had spent just one season as a judge on the nine-year-old singing competition.

Ellen’s departure comes as Fox executives and “American Idol” producers prepare significant changes to the show’s judging panel for its 10th season. Simon Cowell, the acerbic judge whose withering critiques helped build the “Idol” audience, has already bid farewell to the program.

We have to say we’re not surprised. Ellen just seemed out of place on the show. Time to bring Paula Abdul back!!

American Idol Lowers Age Requirement To 15

Calling all kids 15 and above….Your American Idol chariot awaits!
On Monday the producers of “American Idol” announced that they will lower the minimum age of eligibility for the singing competition to 15, the “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest said on his official Web site. In previous years, the minimum age for “Idol” hopefuls had been 16, but now performers like Aaron Kelly and Haeley Vaughn (who were well shy of voting age when they appeared on the show’s ninth season) will look like seasoned war horses compared to the 10th season’s crop. Sorry, Larry Platt, but you still can’t officially compete on the show: the maximum age remains 28.
The “Idol” producers also said that the show’s next round of auditions will begin on July 17 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Auditions will continue through the summer in Milwaukee; New Orleans; East Rutherford, N.J.; and Austin, Tex., before concluding in San Francisco on Aug. 19.
We can’t help but wonder if this has anything to do with Bieber Fever?! Regardless contrary to popular opinion we think it’s a great idea. Will you be tuning in?

American Idol Lee DeWyze Hangs With Mickey And Minnie!

Enjoying his  ”American Idol” victory, Lee DeWyze spent the Memorial Day holiday at Walt Disney World on Monday.
The Illinois native followed up his win on the hit FOX show by heading to hang out at the “The American Idol Experience” attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Lake Buena Vista.
Throughout the day, Lee signed autographs for fans and toured the park – also taking time for the most important of them all Mickey and Minnie Mouse!!
Get ready Lee, its going to be a fun-filled year and Disney is just the beginning. :)

Kris Allen Hands On In Haiti

American Idol Kris Allen got hands-on in Haiti.  He helped haul away rubble, and even sang “Amazing Grace” to a group of Haitian children.
Kris said, “We saw a lot of heartbreak but we also saw a lot of hope … The biggest shock for me was when we went by the palace in Haiti. It’s a national icon and it was completely in devastation. This huge beautiful place had been completely demolished … It was definitely the worst devastation that I’ve seen. When I went to South Africa that was really rough, but this was on a totally different scale.”
Footage of Kris’ efforts in Haiti will be shown on tonight’s “Idol” show dedicated to Haiti.  It’s a results show, but will also raise money to help in the earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti with funds going to the U.N. Foundation for Haiti.

More American Idol Drama

Word on the street is things are really heating up on the set of “American Idol”. Ellen DeGeneres is having a hard time accepting Simon Cowell’s prima-donna ways!

DeGeneres was none too pleased when Cowell showed up an hour and a half late on “American Idol’s” first day in Hollywood, according to Nikki Finke and Mike Fleming at Deadline.com.
She had moved up the taping of her own show so she could make it to the “Idol” set on time.
“Here it was the first day of taping of the Hollywood shows, and Ellen was there waiting for Simon to show up,” an insider told Deadline.com.
“Ellen’s new to the gig and she’s very organized and she made a commitment to take this on, and now she’s asking herself, ‘What did I get myself into?’ She called Simon Cowell a prima donna. So right from the start, the chemistry isn’t great,” the source continued.

American Idol Needs Paula Abdul

300.american.idol.judges.020409So tonight was the kick-off of one of our favorite shows “American Idol” but we have to admit we were kinda disappointed. The season nine auditions were held in Boston with only a few good ones out of the bunch but what was really disappointing was the absence of Paula Abdul.
The thought of watching Kara Dio Guardi for another full season is just nauseating. If you don’t believe us, watch the clip below and share your thoughts.

Simon Cowell Is Done With American Idol… Almost

Simon Cowell has decided to exit American Idol after the 2010 season.  His brother Tony announced Simon was out the door.  Tony said, “A press statement is being prepared which will confirm what everybody expected: Simon will leave ‘idol’ at the end of 2010 to concentrate on bringing the American version of ‘X Factor’ to U.S. TV in 2011.”
We can’t imagine American Idol will go on without Simon, but the opportunity for unknown singers will still exist with X-Factor U.S.A.   It’s almost like Simon is just changing the title of the show.
