Maxwell scored his biggest first-week album sales as BLACKsummers’night topped Billboard’s album chart, moving 316,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Maxwell’s First single Pretty Wings is also No. 1 on USA TODAY’s urban adult-contemporary airplay chart and is much deserved!
After taking a 8 year break, Maxwell was not sure if his fans would embrace him or not.
“It’s almost career suicide to take a break and just not release music like I did,” says Maxwell, 36. “But to have people still care, I just don’t know what to say and how to explain it. I’m just so happy because it validates the music I did in my 20s.”
It is evident Maxwell fans have not gone anywhere but with music this good who would?

Sexy Neo-Soul Singer, Maxwell has just announced his plans for his Blacksummers’night tour kicking off June 17th, in Grand Rapids, MI. The singer is planning on performing twenty five shows with the final show July 31st in Miami. Maxwell is releasing his highly anticipated album July 7, 2009 called “Blacksummers’night” on Columbia records. “Blacksummers’ night” is a trio of albums with the first release kicking off the tour. This will mark Maxwell’s first album since 2001 “Now” which hit number 1 on the Billboard 200. Maxwell was first introduced to us in 1997 with his Grammy nominated album “Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite” which achieved double platinum status.
