NUMERO GETS BOOTLEGGED AND, GET THIS, PLANS TO RELEASE A BOOTLEG OF THE BOOTLEG!

“ECCENTRIC BREAKS AND BEATS” COMING JUNE 8th 2009

From the mid 80s through the early 90s, the groundbreaking “record label” Street Beat brought the world what would someday become the legendary Ultimate Breaks and Beats 25-volume collection.  Featuring tracks that were known for their breaks from 3 distinct decades, UBB highlighted some of the best R&B and soul groups of the time and paved the way for many modern DJs and hip-hop artists.  Some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and in a true nod to all fans  out there, the Numero Group via their Numbero imprint will release Eccentric Breaks & Beats this June!

How does all of this happen, one might ask? Simple.  Throughout the course of 7 years and over 70 releases from the acclaimed archival label and film production company the Numero Group, a dedicated fan created a 40 minute mega-mix and pressed up a white label breaks record.  Inevitably, the incredibly rare bootleg LP release found it’s way to the dance floor and in the hands of some of the most discerning tastemakers in the DJ community.  Word got back to Numero and instead of issuing the obvious cease and desist letter, Numero decided to bootleg their own bootleg.  On June 8th, the Numero Group will deliver a proper LP and CD release of the bootleg as an homage to the breaks and beats collections of yore.

Think you’ve heard it all?  The creator of this essential collection is none other than the apocryphal label and production team, Shoes, who have previously re-worked Moodyman, Al Green, Miles Davis, and dozens more.  Featuring over 50 tracks from some of the best artists associated with the Numero Group and probably the best cover art of 2010 (do your research!), this collection is sure to lead any serious collector on the ultimate crate digging scavenger hunt.

Farai Chideya has combined media, technology, and social justice during her 20-year career as an award-winning author and journalist. From 2006 to early 2009, she hosted NPR’s News and Notes, a daily national program about African-American and African diaspora issues. She and the teams she has worked with have won awards including a National Education Reporting Award, a North Star News Prize, and a special award from the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association for coverage of AIDS. She has written three nonfiction books: Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters; The Color of Our Future; and Don’t Believe the Hype: Fighting Cultural Misinformation About African Americans. All are taught on college campuses across the country, and The Color of Our Future has found an increasingly broad audience as America has become more diverse (and Americans more aware of our collective diversity). Her novel Kiss the Sky (Atria Books; May 2009) is Essence Magazine’s book club selection for May 2009. Chideya also founded PopandPolitics.com in 1995. It is now one of the longest continuously operating blogs in the world.

Kiss the Sky tracks the life of Sophie “Sky” Lee, a thirtysomething black rock musician making a comeback in New York City in 2000. There are a few hitches to her plans: Sky’s guitarist is her mercurial, drug-abusing ex-husband; her manager is also her boyfriend; and Sky herself is frightened of the cost she’ll pay to reach the pinnacle of fame.

We have always been pulling for these two as you can tell they really are best friends. Demi Lovato finally opened up about her love for Joe Jonas and had this to share with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush:

The host asked Lovato if she’d ever dated any of the Jonas Brothers, “Umm, maybe,” she said coyly.

“Which one? Joe?” asked Bush, to which Lovato said, “Yeah. He’s actually… he’s my best friend.”

Pressing for clarification, Bush said, “So you guys went from boyfriend-girlfriend to best friends?”

“No kind of the opposite,” the 17-year-old Sonny with a Chance star explained.

“Oh? So you’re dating him now?” asked Bush.

“Umm, yeah he is my best friend and he is incredible,” Lovato finally confessed.

Lovato described her Camp Rock 2 costar as a “complete gentleman,” who “treats me to the most amazing places.”

She added, “He’s perfect.”

That is so sweet! We happen to know personally “The Jonas Brothers” are true gentleman. Cheers to love!

Who would ever imagine Jennifer Aniston would be in a film with Heidi Montag??

Well,it’s true!

Heidi tweeted the good news to all her tweeps:

“I was just cast in my first feature film comedy!” “This is one of the best days of my life!”

“Memorizing my script for the feature comedy movie I am filming all next week.”

The movie titled “Just Go With It” will also feature Adam Sandler and Nicole Kidman.

We are guessing Heidi has a very small role to go with those DDD’s!

The Dirty Heads have emerged onto the music scene with their unique signature blend of acoustic infused hip-hop and classic reggae, creating the perfect soundtrack for an upbeat summer.  The band’s breakthrough single, “Lay Me Down” featuring Rome of Sublime With Rome, has become a top 10 single in a number of major markets across the country and has drawn comparisons to known musicians 311, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson.

Jessica Simpson is coming to Gaby Sidibe’s defense against Howard Stern for his recent hateful comments that the Oscar nominee will never work again in Hollywood because of her weight. (That’s the nice version)

“I’m actually surprised somebody had the cojones to say that,” Simpson tells E! from a New York City hotel. “I just think that’s really disrespectful.”

“It’s unfortunate because she walked the red carpet at the Oscars and she owned it,” Simpson said of the Precious star. “She was beautiful. There was no denying that she did not think she was the most beautiful person on that red carpet. She was just owning that moment for herself. She had such confidence and I absolutely 100 percent think she could get anything in the world that she wants.”

Simpson knows a thing or two about being publicly crucified for her weight.

“I don’t care how harsh the criticism is, you’re not going to take me down,” she said. “I’m going to get back up and fight. I’m not going to let anybody’s opinions destroy me.”

Jessica and Gaby are both amazing women. Howard is just a hater who never got passed being teased as a kid. Shame on him!

Pearl Jam has released 13 new May dates for concerts in the U.S.   They begin by headlining the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation Festival on May 1st and continue up to May 20th and 21st with two dates at Madison Square Garden in NYC.  Most dates are on the east coast, but for the full list you can click here: http://pearljam.com/news/announcement

Here’s an amazing performance of their latest single, “Just Breathe”

Rapper Lupe Fiasco is part of a special documentary on MTV this Sunday.  “Summit On The Summit: Kilimanjaro” chronicles the journey of the group of celebrities who climbed to the top of Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the importance of clean water.  Other hikers included Jessica Biel, Santigold, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas.  Lupe said, “The people that were there were the support staff; they were our motivation.  That carried everybody.  Attitudes and spirits were high.”

The 90-minute documentary airs this Sunday at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on MTV.
